The Journey
When I reflect and look at the young Matt, I see someone who used to believe he didn’t deserve success. He thought he wasn’t good enough, smart enough, or talented enough. He believed, “I can’t change; this is just who I am,” and often asked himself, “Why try if I always fail?”
Growing up in Markham, Canada, I was a D and F student, and in an Asian household, grades were everything. It defined you. I felt lost and had no confidence, especially since my high school was known for its academic excellence. While everyone I knew was getting accepted into universities, I was rejected by every single one I applied to. To fit in, I lied about going to a university because I didn’t want to feel like the odd one out due to my insecurities. I ended up hanging around the wrong people and making choices that didn’t serve me.
I reached a breaking point. I knew I needed to make a change, and the one thing I could control was my fitness. The gym and sports was the one place where I felt capable, as I saw the results of my hard work, I started to gain a little confidence. With no clear direction but a desire to improve, I applied to college and moved away from my hometown to attend Georgian College in Barrie. I didn’t have a clear plan, but I was determined to finish something, so I earned a diploma in advertising and marketing.
Still searching for who I was and what I wanted, I turned to some of the world’s greatest motivational speakers for guidance. Tony Robbins’ and Les Brown content, in particular, helped me find inspiration and purpose. They changed my life. With the realization, I knew my purpose was to help others build their confidence and self-esteem from the ground up—just as I had to do.
“Self-esteem is not about what other people say about you; it’s about what you say about yourself. It’s about what you stack and assemble, it’s what you create, the habit of what you put into your head.” – Tony Robbins
I began to conquer my limited beliefs and overcame my fear of being in front of the camera through modelling and surrounded myself with confident, supportive people. I took on various jobs to gain as much experience as possible, learning along the way that self-esteem isn’t about what others say about you; it’s about what you say to yourself. It’s about the habits you build, the thoughts you nurture, and the belief system you create.
I changed my belief system. Today, my belief system is strong: I deserve success. I am smart, talented, and creative enough. I can change, grow, and become better. I learn from my failures and use them to propel me forward.
My mission is to help others unlock their true potential through the power of confidence, self-esteem, and a genuine smile. As I continue to overcome my fear of public speaking, I’ve learned firsthand the transformative power of confidence. My goal is to share the insights and strategies I’ve gathered from the world’s top thought leaders to help you build your own confidence and create a life filled with purpose and positivity.
Join me on this journey, and together, let’s elevate your self-esteem, transform your confidence, and unlock your true potential.
